Years ago I told my mom during a car ride that I would write a book one day about how unstable our family is. Then I proceeded to show her how thick it would be by creating depth with my fingers. I didn’t turn out to be much of a writer, but photography has given me the opportunity to illustrate the moments and memories that have existed and continue to exist. In my photographs I treat my family as characters. They exist in an environment that represents the past, present and future. They are characters that not only exist in the world that I create, but also within a reality for so many families. As the saying goes, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
