My photographs are in a sense an examination of illusory beauty attached to landscape, scrutinizing the site and context of memory and place. These pictures are set within Yosemite National Park, a landscape that has long been an iconic natural symbol of American possibility and prospect. I created images that not only offer the viewer an experience of this epic space but also challenges traditional landscape identification through photographing in areas where murders have taken place over the past few decades. I am interested in examining the deceptive nature of the sublime as well as acknowledging the erasure of historical horror by photographing what remains in these areas.
